This is a tough question, as phones are constantly evolving, and different models are available in different countries.

Instead of recommending particular phones, here is a list of the important aspects to look for in a phone:

• Battery Life
• Memory
• Robustness / Waterproofness (or get a good case)
• Camera Quality
• GPS sensitivity
• Needs a gyroscope and accelerometer
• Ability to be fixed in-country - unless there is a big difference in price / availability (or you might be ferrying phones back and forth to US / Europe etc.)

Feedback we have had about particular phones / models:

• Blackview A95 - poor camera and GPS quality
• Ulephones - very robust but not always a good user experience, and don’t work well as actual phones. But they are being used in both CoMapeo and Mapeo projects, as dedicated project phones to good effect.
